Confessions of a Gym Slacker

Hello my name is Nkoyo and I’m a gym slacker. *Hello Nkoyo*

I know this doesn’t just happen to me but since starting this blog with my cousin, Elena, I feel as though I have to be truthful not only to myself but also to you guys in the blogosphere. I don’t want to be the type of blogger that writes about fitness and living a healthy lifestyle while doing the total opposite.

So, here’s my truth:

I, Nkoyo have not been to the gym nor have I done the NTC Ab Burner workout, that I can do in the comfort of my own home for a WEEK.

*Why Nkoyo, did you have an extremely busy work/home week?* Nope, nothing outside my norm.

*Oh, then where you sick or being reminded that you can still have children this week?* No and No

So now, you might be wondering what excuse I’m going to give you. I really don’t have one, unless you count LAZINESS as an excuse.

SMH, Nkoyo. Get your life (Tamar Braxton voice).

My poor sneakers are waiting for a run and I’m pretty sure the group of women I used to attend group training sessions with have used up all their sessions. What’s wrong with me? :/

This isn’t anything new but it’s starting to get very annoying. You know what I’m talking about, you start working out for months and then you miss a day and that turns into 2 missed days and then you wake up and its been 7 days. Seriously, self this pattern is getting old and I’m sick of it.

The one positive is that now, I really see that eating and working are 80/20. I still ate and logged my food daily and managed to drop 1lb. So, now instead of talking about it, I’m going to be about it!

Does this happen to you? I hope I’m not the only one that’s at times a closet slacker.

Relax It’s The Weekend: Homemade Facial

Happy Saturday!!! FFM would like to remind you to take time for yourself this weekend.

This weekend try a Homemade Facial. Here is a recipe for an Oatmeal Mask.

Homemade Honey & Oatmeal Facial

 Ingredients:

½ cup fast cooking oatmeal

¼ cup honey

½ cup water

Directions:

Mix together the oatmeal and water in small bowl, and cook (or microwave, according to instructions).  Let the oatmeal cool about 5-7 minutes, then add ¼ honey.  Mix well into a paste.  Apply this ‘mask’ to cleansed skin, and let dry.  Place two cooled tea bags over your eyes for an even more soothing experience!  You’ll want to wash this mask off after about 15 minutes.

Oatmeal Benefits: Moisturizing and is an Exfoliant

Honey Benefits: A Natural Humectant- which means it’s able to trap moisture in the skin without causing excess oil.

Yogurt Benefits: Prevents Premature Aging, Figths Acne

Date Night Chic: Neon + Sequins

Who wants to wait until the holiday’s to wear sequins? Not me. Even though I have to wait until the holiday’s to purchase a cute pair of sequins shorts.

So, in the meantime, let’s summer this look up with some neon.

Date Night Chic!

I love Nia Long’s 2009 look for the “Good Hair” premier, it’s just effortless chic.

Adventures in Motherhood: Sleep Traning

So Co and I are embarking on the road of Sleep Training.  For me this is my 2nd/3rd attempt.  The 1st go round for me, Peyton was 1 and it was a lot easier than I thought it would be.  We went with the “Cry it Out” method and after the 3rd or 4th night it seemed to get better.  Now that she is 2 (28 months) it seems to be a tad bit more difficult.  This Diva can “Cry it Out” for a much longer time now.  I have learned that schedules and routines are key with children and once they get off it may be harder to get them back on track.

Our nightly routine looks a bit like this: (will leave off times because that is something else we need to work on) 🙂

  • Dinner
  • Bath
  • Book (or some educational activity)
  • Bed

Sleeping so nicely in her bed…didn’t last long 4AM wake up

Lessons learned for child number 2:

  • Teach them to self sooth early
  • Stick to routine no mater where you are
  • Let them sleep in their bed from day 1

NTC: Get Focused Ab Burner

Seriously, I have had the Nike Training Club (NTC) app on my iPhone for-ev-er (in my Sand Lot voice) and this past week was the first time I actually put it to use.

Man-oh-Man! The 30 minute Sweat + Shape workout had me winded, sore, and I barely finished. So instead of giving up I’m going to embark on a self-proclaimed Ab Burner challenge, with your help.

My plan is to complete the Get Focused/Ab Burner 15 minute routine 2x/day. I will continue to use my Nike+ and run a minimum of 2 miles 3x/week and go to at least 1 group training session. I will post an update next week Wednesday.

About NTC:

Your personal trainer. Anytime, Anywhere. Start by selecting a goal, get lean, get toned, get strong, get focused and choose from the list of workouts under each goal. You can also have music in the background while audio instructions from the trainer plays, guiding you through the workout. Before you start your workout, I suggest playing the step-by-step video instruction of each drill. You are also, able to track your workout history and progress, unlock exclusive athlete workouts as your minutes add up, share your progress on social media and download bonus workouts each month.
