Saturday and Sunday were a great start to the Holiday season for my family. We spent Saturday evening with family and friends watching The Mag Mile parade. It was cold but Yus’ glee as the floats went by warmed my heart. We had tons of fun!
Garret’s Popcorn float! yum
All bundled for the fun!
Sunday was spent as most of are Sunday’s are at, church. This Sunday’s message really hit J & I as we have over the last month or so really been taking stock of our blessings and how far God has brought us. We attend City Church Chicago and Pastor Kent spoke from Hebrews 11:21:
21 By faith Jacob, when he was dying, blessed each of Joseph’s sons, and worshiped as he leaned on the top of his staff.
Pastor Kent mentioned how we have to take a step back and worship God for our blessings small and large.
There is a Perspective that Produces Worship
Lean on God’s promise.
Are you taking the time to reflect and look back on the marks on your staff and All that God has done for you and your family? If not, take a step back and really look at your life and look at your story. Thank God in this season for where He has brought you from and where He will take you.
Just wanted to drop this little nugget on you all and hope it blesses you like it has blessed me.
‘Tis the season to be Thankful!
This Saturday was the last weekend for the NC State Fair and we had a blast with the girls. I think all the lights, people and rides built on the their excitement. I normally get really excited about ending my fair time with a funnel cake :). But this year I didn’t (maybe because I knew I had sweet potato pies at home 🙂 ) One thing I did notice was the increase of all things fried… They have now taken all the snacks that people enjoy, dip them in batter and fry em up.
Leading up to the fair I heard a lot a fuss about the Krispy Kreme Burger. When listening to the radio commercials I couldn’t picture it. But the line was warped around the fair grounds for this thing and I sat beside someone with one and got to see it first hand. The Krispy Kreme Donuts served as the bun to the burger. (not sure I can do that one) It was fun watching the lady try to eat it lol.
As we walked around we saw Fried Oreos, Fried Twinkies, and Fried Girl Scout Cookies. Now I was almost tempted to see how my favorite Girl Scout Cookies would taste fried died and laid to the side.
Have you tried any of these fried treats? If so share with us, or comment below on Facebook or Twitter
So I think I may have a new hobby with couponing. I enjoy watching Extreme Couponing and have added a huge grocery haul to my Dream List. After following a few couponing pros on IG I gave it a shot for the 2nd time about a week ago. My 1st experience was a disaster and I ended up spending way to much. So this time I was excited to see my coupons work for me. I didn’t get much because I’m still learning and my Hubby was eying me like I was crazy as I started filling the cart up with Tide. (hence I only left with 2, I’ll be back)
Tide- Sale $5.49 or $5.99 (memory issue and lost receipt) c $2 off
Dawn- Sale $0.99 c $0.25 and $0.50 off
Gatorade- 5 for $5 CVS $1 off c
My goal is to rack up on things we really need. Not a fan of things we may not need/use but I’m all about saving a buck.
Wish list for beginning stock pile:
- Laundry detergent
- Dish soap
- Paper towels
- Toilet paper

This past weekend we went to Darien Fest and had tons of fun!!!! 🙂 I did my usual workout but that Saturday morning it was with more oomph and power because I wanted a funnel cake at the fair and didn’t want to feel bad about sharing it with my son. 🙂
So I burned some calories, ate a healthy breakfast, had a chicken salad for lunch and indulged in my (I mean our) funnel cake. It was Yus’ first funnel cake experience and I believe he thoroughly enjoyed it along with an icy and all the rides he went on by himself because he’s a big boy now! 🙂
It got me to thinking why or what are you working out for? Health. Self. Jeans. Bikini. Family.
Well I’m exercising for Self, to be a better wife and mother, and a bikini/tankini summer 2014! In that order. 🙂 But last Saturday morning I was specifically working out for that funnel cake that took me back to my summers at Point Pleasant and Seaside Heights beaches. I feel like every drive home was laced with the smell of the shore and funnel cake.
You can take the girl out of Jersey but never the Jersey out of the girl! Wuder Ice anyone! :p
As of Aug 19th the 2 kid Reality hits. Don’t get me wrong it hit when Piper was born almost 4 months ago, but now my Hubby’s summer vacation is over. This now means I will be handling daycare drop off and pick up for both girls and I can no longer sleep in. 😦 Vacation is over. Along with football season (Shannon is the Head FB coach), Peyton has dance and tumbling 2 days out of the wk and swimming. So now I have to put in to action a few plans to make life easier in the mornings and in the evenings too.
Operation make my life easier will include weekend prep for the following:
- Iron our clothes for the week
- Meal planning and prep
- Find hair styles that last for a week (more for Peyton now)
I think getting our clothes together for the week will be my easiest task. I love the weekly clothes organizers I have for the girls. I need one for me too. 🙂
Here is a sample plan I have used in the past.
The joy when I have 3 heads to worry about. Co only has to brush the boys hair and go. (hating voice) 🙂
I tried box braids in her hair but it took too long do and take out. Looks cute but gets fizzy too fast
Think I will go back to 2 strand twist as my easy go to style
